There are only a few spots which provide such a varied landscape for the hiker. Within a few hours you can walk from the fertile plain with its fruits, vegetables and the grapes, through forests of beeches and oaks mixed with pines to the barren and rocky fauna of the high Vosges mountains.

Nevertheless you can also walk for a few days walk within the vineyards, stay in the forest or stay in the treeless alpine zone of the mountains. The possibilities are varied and countless.

The well-developed region also provides you easy access to all areas and you explore the deepest forest or the highest hilltops in comfortable circular walks without the impression of a crowded or overrun zone. Visit the lakes Lac Noir, Lac Blanc and Lac Vert where the scenery is as breathtaking as the names of the lakes are colourful.

ImageOur partner hotels are spread throughout the area so you can easily discover the region without the use of a car. You can start directly from the reception’s desk and reach Alsatian nature. One of our most popular places to stay and to discover the higher Vosges region is the small village Lapoutroie. From here you have the opportunity to walk in the lower forest areas or to explore the top of the Vosges mountain ridge. If you like it a bit more colourful you should not miss the cozy wine village Niedermorschwihr , located within the vineyards but easily accessible to the forests of the hills. Not less interesting for you may be the wine villages of Itterswiller (located on the Alsatian Wine Road and a good starting point for extended walk in the vineyards and the border of the forest. Turckheim is also a good location for a trip to the uppermost Vosges mountains as long you are equipped with a car.

Another more elevated starting point for good walks and to explore the higher mountains is the pilgrim’s village Trois Epis. The pilgrimage goes back to the year 1491 when the Virgin Mary appeared to a blacksmith holding three ears (trois epis) in her hand as a symbol of divine mercy and blessing.

For those who want to combine walking and a luxurious ambience with spa at the end of a hard walking day, we strongly recommend our partner hotel in Ottrott, located on the foot the Odile’s mountain, with its fabulous monastery on its top. Not to forget the fantastic red wine named Rouge d'Ottrott growing here and brought to its best by the local winegrowers.
