Palatinate is a wonderful destination for families - fullstop!

ImageThere are many opportunities for parents and children alike to enjoy common activities that are of interest to all or separate activities for family members in a safe and relaxing environment.

For those interested in nature and the environment, there are many potential points of interest from just simply walking through the forests and meadows of the Palatinate to purpose built biospheres or zoos.

A very special and new feature is the biosphere reservation house and the treetop path walkway at Fischbach.  The biosphere house provides an excellent overview to all aspects of the forest ecosystem without boring you.  On the treetop path you are able to visit the top of the trees and view the wildlife in a well-secured path in a height between 18 and 35 m above the ground surface.

ImageThe small centrally located town of Landau offers a famous  zoo, home to more than 600 animals, some of which are rare and endangered and also Germany’s largest bear enclosure.  Also located in Landau is the “Reptilium” containing a wide range of reptiles in spacious terrariums that enables visitors to study the “little dragons” in replicated natural environments.  Special events are also run enabling visitors close contact with animals during feeding them, naturally in the presence of an experienced keeper!

ImageAt the “Wild und Wanderpark” - (animal leisure park) in the town of Silz, local wild life such as deer, wild bore, wolves and birds can be viewed in extended enclosures within forest and meadows.  The park also boasts a big adventure playing ground for the children, as well as, a restaurant for a drink or a snack.

In addition to these nature experiences, you will find a whole lot more to do with your children. There are more than 50 Image scenic castles and ruins waiting to be explored, some well maintained others wild and mysterious, or maybe a picnic with your  children somewhere on a shady forest meadow.  Alternatively you can experience a relaxing cruise along the River Rhine, soaking up the beautiful countryside and history at leisure.

For all those who are interested in cultural or scientific experiences why not visit museums such as the aeronautical Technik Museum (Technical museum) in Speyer, displaying all sorts of planes and machines to touch and learn about. You won't believe it, but they even exhibit a Jumbo Jet.  Associated with the museum is the IMAX cinema showing 3D-movies.  If you are more interested in history you can visit the historical museum of Palatinate, also located in Speyer and then, to finalize the historical tour, the magnificent Cathedral.  The list of the museums is long, ranging from the tin soldier museum (Zinnfiguren Museum) in Bad Bergzabern to the railway museum (Eisenbahnmuseum) in Neustadt.
